Backgammon Boot Camp by Walter Trice

Published in 2004, "Backgammon Boot Camp" is a compilation of backgammon articles designated for the novice player who wants to advance to an intermediate level (at least for starters). The backgammon book was described as "the best modern book for anyone seriously looking to go quickly from a novice to advanced player."

"Backgammon Boot Camp" opens with an unpredictable comparison between roller derby and backgammon that leads to the conclusion that both games have several things in common: in backgammon as well as in roller derby the teams/players are trying to block their opponents and both are race games.

The backgammon book continues covering wide range of backgammon tactics and strategies, including opening rolls, building primes and securing anchors. "Backgammon Boot Camp" also discussed advanced strategies that may be foreign to the backgammon beginner's ear such as duplication, diversification and connectivity. Eventually, if read chapter by chapter, along with practicing the game against the computer or a live opponent, the book can really push a beginner to a more advanced level.
